The Watson Glaser Test - All The Resources I Used

Firms receive thousands and thousands of Training Contract applications. The Watson Glaser Test can be used to filter these applications in several ways:

  • For some firms, the Watson Glaser Test is a sole way to filter out applications. This means that if you do not pass the Watson Glaser Test, the firm would not even consider your paper application.

  • For others firms, the firm may be use the test results and weigh it up against other information in your application.

  • There could also be a norm group (who you are being benchmarked against) and there can also be a percentile cut off (can be as low as 20th percentile or as high as 75th percentile).

In this blogpost, I share all the resources I used to practise for my Watson Glaser Test.

Interview with Emma Matebalavu, the Global Head of Global Financial Markets at Clifford Chance

Emma Matebalavu has many accolades to her name. She is the Co-head of Clifford Chance’s Global Financial Markets practice in London and a Partner specialising in real estate finance and all types of structured debt. Alongside running some of the biggest finance deals in the world, Emma somehow always makes time for anyone (even someone as junior as me) if we need to speak to her. She is also a mother, a wife and an avid reader.

As a junior in the profession, I spoke to Emma to understand how she balances all her responsibilities with such grace.

In this interview, Emma also shares her journey into law, how she made partner, her tips for those doing their training contracts and her tips for aspiring solicitors.
